Chicago is pretty close to where I live. According to my maps app, it’s about three hours from where I reside, but in reality, its about four. So, I’m not sure why I haven’t made it out to Chicago more often for weekends trips. It might be because I work in and live close to Detroit, so there’s where I usually go for anything big city-related. But, for whatever reason, it had been years since I last visited Chicago, and that was too long. So, when my good friend Rebecca said she was going to be in the area for work, I knew I had to visit her.
Chicago Things to Do
Rebecca lives in Nashville, so I don’t get down there to see her too often. Chicago is a much closer trip, so I was really excited when I heard she would be in the Windy City.
As for Chicago things to do, you’ll never be at a loss. I was only there for a day and night, so I didn’t have a lot of time to do all the cool things you can do in the city. Rebecca and I did do a very Chicago thing, though, in that we went to a Chicago Bears game. It was a preseason game, because the regular season doesn’t start until September, but it was still so much fun. Soldier Field was packed as if it was a regular season game. Everyone had Caleb Williams jerseys on, too. Do you think it’s too soon to count on Williams to turn the franchise around? Maybe.
The game was super fun, even with lots of rain coming down. It took forever to get some soft pretzels and water, but boy, both tasted so good. It wasn’t super hot that day, either, which was good. In the end, the Bears beat the Cincinnati Bengals, so people were happy. Of course, if you don’t travel to the Windy City during the football season, you can always check out other Chicago things to do in the sports world, such as seeing the Cubs or Bulls. I definitely want to hit up a Bulls game there sometime.
Rebecca and I also went out to eat after the game, and that’s when I discovered just how many dining options Chicago offers. If you love food, you should really take a weekend or longer just to eat your way through the city. This place has some of the highest-rated restaurants in the country.
Theater is also a huge draw in the city, so if you love live theater, check out the theater district. Broadway in Chicago offers a wide range of entertainment, including musicals and plays, on the stages of five of the finest theatres in Chicago’s Loop.
If you love animals, note that Chicago actually has not one but two zoos: The Chicago Lincoln Park or Brookfield. Both zoos offer plenty of animals, and Chicago Lincoln Park offers even more, including a beach, gardens and beautiful views of the skyline.
So, there you have it, with just a handful of Chicago things to do if you visit. The possibilities are really endless, though. I hope you enjoy your next trip to the Windy City.
